Schweizer Aircraft developed the Model 300CBi specifically for the commercial helicopter training market. The Model 300CBi retains all of the superb flight handling, reliability, and safety characteristics of the Schweizer Model 300C, but for many operators, at the lowest life cycle cost of any current production helicopter. With the debut of the Model 300CBi in 2002, Schweizer Aircraft introduced the most versatile, reliable and performance-oriented piston training helicopter available in the world. Most notably, the 300CBi provides commercial training operators with the lowest total cost of ownership of any FAA certified helicopter. It provides improved training and safer operations at a lower cost to the operator.
The Model 300CBi is powered by an injected Lycoming HIO-360-G1A engine with a 2200-hour MTBO (2000 hours for those operators who fly less than 40 hours per month) and rated at 180 continuous horsepower. With a gross weight of 1,750 pounds, the 300CBi features 662 pounds of payload capacity. Translated into profitable economics, two 225 pound pilots, with a full standard fuel tank of 35 gallons, can fly for over three hours without refueling. The 300CBi is one hundred percent maintainable in the field and does not require a return to the factory for overhaul. All component retirement lives are 4000 hours or greater. That's a handy combination of performance and economy rolled into one very desirable package.

Optimized For Training
The 300CBi was designed to incorporate the many advantages of the Model 300C but at a lower cost. Over 100,000 students have learned to fly in Model 269 Series helicopters (TH-55, 300C, 300CB, and 333) which are generally accepted as the finest piston-powered and turbine-powered training helicopters in the world.
The 300CBi was designed to optimize training effectiveness. Attention to detail makes the cockpit both pleasing to the eye and convenient for the pilots. Its spacious cockpit and four inches of pedal adjustment help make pilots of nearly any size comfortable when seated. The use of a conventional helicopter control system facilitates pilot transition into other helicopters. Responsive handling characteristics provide pilots with smooth, vibration-free stick forces which facilitate learning. The cyclic control is well balanced under all flight conditions, which makes flying the 300CBi a true pleasure and a great foundation for students who advance to larger helicopters.
Safety ... Student Margins and Crashworthiness
Schweizer Aircraft is a world leader in the design and production of training aircraft. Besides its helicopter products, Schweizer sailplanes are used by most soaring schools in the United States and Schweizer's fixed wing trainers are used by the U.S. Air Force Academy. Schweizer's helicopters and aircraft perform commercial and military training in more than 65 countries.
In early 2002, the 300CB set a new standard for safety with over 200,000 flight hours and no serious injuries and zero fatalities. This is an impressive safety record considering the fact that the 300CB is used primarily for flight training.
Safety does not happen by chance. It is engineered into the design of each aircraft that Schweizer produces. It is Schweizer Aircraft's firm belief that there are two imperatives for training aircraft: a) they must provide adequate student margins so that the possibility of having an accident is minimized; and b) they must have crashworthiness characteristics such that in the event of an accident, the possibility of injury or death is minimized.
For flight training aircraft, student margins are a major consideration. Student margins refer to the performance and control response available for a student pilot to make a mistake and still have sufficient reserves for the student or instructor to recover the helicopter. With the 300CBi's large power reserve, the kinetic energy available in its rotor system, and an engine overspeed range greater than the normal operating range, the 300CBi exhibits safety margins that are equal to or better than those of any other piston-powered helicopter.
Crashworthiness and pilot safety are paramount. The 300CBi retains the same tri-level energy absorption system used in the 300C. In the event of a crash, twenty-three inches of stroke is achieved through compression and yielding of the landing gear, crushable sub-floor, and seat structure. This energy absorption, one of the primary secrets of the 300C's excellent safety record, has been retained in the design of the 300CBi.
Maintainability Made Simple
The Model 300CBi has been carefully engineered to minimize downtime and direct operating costs; it is 100% maintainable in the field. The only maintenance required between 100 hour inspections is rotor system lubrications every 25 hours and oil changes every 50 hours. Each 100 hour general inspection requires simple checks and maintenance procedures and does not require major disassembly of components.
To help reduce direct operating costs and downtime, component retirement lives are 4,000 hours and above for the main rotor. All other major component life limits exceed 4,200 hours. The STAR System's start-up overspeed limiter and the Lycoming engine, which provides an ample overspeed margin, reduce the risk of expensive engine tear downs.
