Airplane Rental Pilot Checkout Course

This aircraft checkout orientates rental pilots into company policy on fixed wing operations in general and to ensure they have complete knowledge of operations in and out of Van Nuys Airport and surrounding flight areas. Before a renter operates any aircraft, Renter must receive expressed authorization from Group 3 with a check out by Group 3 flight instructors. The manner of the checkout and the amount of time required for a successful check out is at the discretion of the flight instructor and Group 3 and shall be conducted in accordance with prevailing FAA regulations, safety concerns, and insurance requirements.

Ground Check Out

  • Outline of airplane operations at Van Nuys Airport and flight procedures out from and into the airport.
  • Hazards associated with flight in the airspace and operations related to the density of aircraft.
  • Review of aircraft operations manual, including emergency procedures.
  • Review of company policies and requirements

Flight

  • Clearance procedures and departure routes out from Van Nuys Airport.
  • Flight maneuvers and operations in the airspace and operations related to the density of aircraft in the airspace.
  • Review of aircraft normal and emergency procedures.
  • Clearance procedures and arrival routes into Van Nuys Airport.

Renter's Insurance Renters insurance must be purchased to cover the non-insured deductible portion of the physical damage aircraft insurance policy. Renters shall obtain their own renter's and or non-owned aircraft insurance policies with appropriate coverage limits.

Currency Federal Aviation Regulation 61.56 and 61.57 should be consulted to maintain legally imposed currency. Student Pilots see also FAR 61.87 and consult your Instructor for Solo limitations. Group 3 Flight Currency Policy requires airplane rental pilots to fly every 180 days with a Group 3 Instructor in order to allow continued solo/rental privileges.

Minimum Rental Charges A Student/Renter who reserves an aircraft overnight or for any eight (8) hour period or longer shall be charged a minimum of three (3) –hours of flight time regardless of the actual time flown. Any aircraft scheduled or utilized for two (2) or more consecutive days shall be charged a minimum of four (4) flight hours per day.

On successful completion of the course the rental pilot student shall be issued with a Group 3 Aviation, Inc. Company Course Completion endorsement in their logbook, by the certified flight instructor who administered the check out.

Checkouts are for all non company trained pilots; including those with more than 100 hours fixed wing and 20 hours in make and model.

Block Rate
For Single Engines $1,500 minimum is required on account and as you fly, payments are deducted from your block account.

For the Multi-Engine a 12-hour block minimum is required to receive the bloc
 
Standard Rate
Charges are to be paid at the conclusion of each flight or ground lesson.
